I'm New Here
What can I expect at The Well?
We know that the church thing can be weird for a lot of people - especially if you're not used to it. We want to be clear that The Well is about so much more than a gathering or ‘church service' on Sunday. Gathering on Sundays is important to us, but it is only part of what The Well community does. Because of this, we are intentional about Sunday gatherings not being a ‘show.' Our gatherings are not designed to impress people or God. They are designed to facilitate getting to know God and people better. So, here are some questions you might ask:
If Sundays are only one expression of The Well, what else is an expression The Well?
When people think of ‘church,' they think of a sunday gathering or a building. Church is actually the people. So, wherever the people are, the church is there. There are small communities of people within the larger body of The Well that regularly hang out, have fun, and just do life together. We are in the process of facilitating more of this as we are starting something we call re-groups. The Well is often most meaningfully expressed in planned or unplanned events in people's daily lives - whether playing, praying, working, playing poker, studying the Bible, watching football, or having a coffee or a beer with friends.
What about the Sunday Gathering?
We meet Sunday mornings at 10am at Buda Elementary. We spend some time to learn from the Bible, pray, meditate, and sing. Each Sunday, we observe the Lord's Supper as a way to participate in the great love and life that Jesus offers us. The atmosphere is casual and laid back.
What if I'm not familiar with church stuff?
No worries. You won't be alone. Whether or not you choose to participate in part or all of the gathering is up to you. Go at your pace. No one wants you to feel forced to do something you don't believe or aren't comfortable with.
What does the pastor talk about?
We teach from the Bible. We try to be frank about what the Bible says. We never try to make the Bible relevant...we simply try to show that it is relevant. Thus, the messages tend to be very real and practical. The pastors always assume that there will be people from various backgrounds listening - from Christians to Atheists and everything in between.
Can I bring my kids?
Please do. Right now, kids from ages 2-8 or so are welcome to join other kids during the sermon to have fun, play games, do crafts, and learn about who Jesus is.
What should I wear?
We don't care...as long as you wear something.
